Spring Hill House officially opened to the public as the Bundaberg Distillery's Visitor's Centre in November 1991. The house has a significant tie to the history of Bundaberg Rum. It takes its name from the sugar cane plantation where it was previously the manager's residence. The house and plantation have had only three previous owners, all with close associations with the Bundaberg Distilling Company. The builders and first owners, the Noakes Bros, were pioneers of Bundaberg and its sugar industry.
They were two of the original shareholders in the Distilling Company, and initial suppliers of molasses, the raw sugar material for rum manufacture. The next owner was AP Barton, another district pioneer who was also an inaugural Distilling Company shareholder, a company director and chairman. The third owner was Fairymead Sugar Company Limited, now Bundaberg Sugar Company Limited. They were previously half owners of the Bundaberg Distilling Company Pty Ltd with Diageo Australia Ltd (then United Distillers Australia Ltd).

Distillery Overview
Distillery Tour
In 1888, the first barrel of Bundaberg Rum literally rolled out of the production line. 110 years later, Bundaberg Rum, through its trials and tribulations, has gained recognition as one of Australia's famous Aussie spirits. In 1986 the Bundaberg Distilling Company appointed its first tour guide and demand soon saw the need to expand the tourist operation.
A guided tour will have you look, feel and taste your way through the making of the Famous Aussie Spirit. Starting with the raw material molasses, to the aromas of maturing spirit, your temptations will run high for a refreshing sample in the bar with a variety of Bundy mixes and Rum liqueur based drinks.
